1973 911T

I have an early 1973 911T with MFI and the Comfort Package (commonly called the “S Package”) that is over 75% original with a great, and sometimes sad, story. She’s a warrior who survived and is really shiny in places, and definitely patina’d in others. The seat covers and floor material were replaced because mice made it a home for 20+ years. I could tell you a story about the very noticeable (50 or so) paint scratches on the sunroof…. (semicolon)) It’s a doozy and I’m not repairing it because it’s part of her history. She’s a survivor and I’d love to let other Porsche air cooled fanatics see her. She won 1st in the Zone 7 PCA concours unrestored category U3 this year. She sat in a warehouse under a couple of sheets for over 20 years, and was a home to mice and other small beasts. She was purchased by a very close friend of mine, Bill, where he started to fix her up, sometimes with my help. I fell in love with that car the first time I saw it in his garage. Unfortunately, within that year he had a series of severe strokes and was left unable to speak well or think clearly. He passed away shortly after that. His wife called me a few months later and said she wanted to give me the car – “…it’s what Bill would have wanted.” So, after seven years of saving money, I was able to begin to put her back together. While she’s buffed up on the original factory paint (except what looks like a repaint on the front side panel), she definitely has some dents and bruises, worn paint on the rims, frunk and top of the car. The engine was completely rebuilt by Frank’s Automotive in Sacramento, and I asked to NOT shine up anything, but to leave it in its original patina. His wife just found the original rear bumpers just last week in the garage, so those are going back on when I pick them up next week! Bill wouldn’t have it any other way – his goal was to restore her as original as possible, the way she was – “Who cares about dents? That’s part of the car’s history!”. Before I start her, every time I say a little thanks to Bill and hope he’s proud of what I’ve done.
